The new division of
the eight senatorial districts
and
the forty representative districts
were unanimously adopted August 15, 2002 by the fifth Reviewing Board of
the Senatorial and Representative Districts, composed by José A. Andréu García,
Presidente, Héctor Luis Acevedo and Virgilio Ramos González, Members.
In accordance with the principle of a minimum change in the configuration of
the legislative districts, the electoral redistribution decided by the fifth
Reviewing Board maintained the eight existing senatorial districts, with the
following modifications:
The municipality of Guaynabo was divided between the senatorial districts of
San Juan and Bayamón: the districts Frailes and Pueblo Viejo, and part of
Barrio Pueblo remained in the senatorial district of Bayamón, whereas the rest
of the municipality became part of the senatorial district of San Juan.
The senatoriales districts of Mayagüez, Ponce and Carolina did not undergo
changes with respect to the 1991 redistribution.
The population analysis of the new senatorial districts and details by
districts of the municipalities divided between two or more Representative
districts will be available in this space opportunely.
